Vanessa Hudgens is an old pro in front of the camera at this point, but even she gets thrown a curveball once in a while. Case in point: The new face of Bongo is posing in ads that look familiar with one minor change: She’s totally unretouched.

Following the success of Aerie’s unretouched ads and the photoshop backlash from some stars, Bongo is embracing its leading lady’s natural beauty and presenting the photos just as they were taken that day.
Why the decision to ditch Photoshop? “In the age of Instagram filters and Photoshop apps, it is more important than ever that Bongo remains committed to inspiring girls to feel comfortable in their own skin and we are excited to be partnering with Vanessa to send that message with this campaign,” says Iconix chief marketing officer Dari Marder.
Adds Hudgens, “I love that the final ad images are unretouched. It’s so important for girls to remember that real beauty shines from within and I’m so proud that Bongo is choosing to send such a positive message with this campaign.”

Hudgens has long been marching to the beat of her own drum, stylewise, from blue hair to wild pants. And it’s one of her favorite things to experiment with. “My style goes from like really bohemian, flowy, to a little more gypsy-esque with vibrant colors and lots of jewelry,” she shares. “From chic, clean, polished, good slacks and button downs, to just crazy, weird pieces. I love vintage finds, they’re like treasures in my closet.”
On her wish list from the line’s fall campaign? All the plaids. “They really do have a little bit of everything!” she says.
Do you love the unretouched photos? Do you hope more companies follow suit?
